3/8 Quilombo Arte Los Angeles

peace y'all!
I'm playing an early set at the Grand Star Jazz Club in DTLA tomorrow.
Come thru

n 2005, Bocafloja founded Quilombo: Arte en Resistencia. Quilomboarte is an organization that produces cultural events in which rap and spoken word function as a non-orthodox educational tool and an essential collaborative adhesive to social and political movements in the processes of transformation throughout the Americas. Quilomboarte operates in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the United States, producing three annual events in Mexico: “Progreso Rhythms”, “Palabreando”, and “Quilombo Anniversary” at which hip hop concerts, conferences, spoken word sessions and open community dialogs are presented to the public. The organization derives its name from the communities in resistance, “Quilombos”, which during the colonial period on the American continent were established by fugitive black slaves (also known as maroons and cimarrones), indigenous peoples and others who rejected colonialism's domination, who preferred to live as free people in communal form. Quilombos (also known as mocambos and palenques), were founded as independent and self-sustaining collectives which rejected the state of slavery and its oppressive nature. As such, Quilomboarte's roots are based in political principles and conceptions that direct its actions. The organization works autonomously, with its own resources and abilities, making use of transgressive and transformative forces of Hip Hop culture applied to sustainable change.

Donald Byrd

Hope his death is just a rumor.
This album forever holds a place in my crates and my heart.
In 2006 i was tour and one of our stops was Bumbershoot in Seattle, I was really exited about being there but was really exited about watching Dr. Donald Byrd perform; we ended up getting the pretty late in the day and to my dissapointment ended up missing his set.
Dr. Donald Byrd music has been sampled by many Hip Hop artists from Stetstasonic, Pete Rock, Erykah Badu to the late JDilla.

Google his full bio and listen to his discography when you can.
